This paper reports our two-year experience of teaching information searching techniques for medical students. After one year of teaching the class, we realized that giving traditional classroom lectures on searching clinical information to second-year students who were still studying basic courses such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry didn't work well because they were not yet in need of clinical literature. In the second year, we changed our way of teaching by collaborating with other medical courses and by giving more hands-on classes. Although we have been teaching in classes for many times on a temporary basis, this was our first opportunity to take charge of the class in the curriculum for 3 months. Much has been learned from this experience and the second year has seen much improvement. We hope this report might be of some help for many other medical libraries that will be in the same situation under the educational reforms in Japanese medical schools.
