Abstract

There are a lot of Brazilian schools among foreign schools in Japan. Brazilian schools can be split into two categories; the Brazilian government does or does not authorize. Among authorized schools, 15 have obtained miscellaneous school approvals from the prefectural governors of Japan. However, despite miscellaneous schools, all Brazilian schools in Japan are not covered by the School Health and Safety Act. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the system for protecting the health of children attending Brazilian schools.

In order to validate the potential of applying the Japanese school health examination model in Brazilian schools, this practical research targeted Brazilian schools that have no experience of practicing school health examinations (2011: Gifu Prefecture; 2012: Aichi Prefecture). In addition, this report included analyses of the results of questionnaire surveys for guardians after implementing the health examination.

The school health examinations based on the initiative of the Brazilian schools could be conducted and early detection and preventative measures could be provided. There remain some challenges, but the adaptation of the Japanese school health examination is possible in a sufficient way.
