抄録

<p>  A356 alloy is widely used for its high quality and good mechanical properties. However, iron impurity included in recycled products often causes coarse intermetallic compound formation, resulting in reduced ductility and fracture toughness. In order to resolve this problem, in the present study, an A356 alloy plate with high iron content was produced by the vertical-type high-speed twin-roll cast method with superior quenching ability. One mm-thick cold-rolled and annealed sheets produced from the twin-roll cast A356 alloy plate containing 0.8%Fe showed good elongation more than 15%. The improvement in ductility is considered to be due to the highly refined intermetallic compounds in the rapidly solidified twin-roll cast plate. This indicates that the present method is effective for reducing the harmful effects of iron impurity in recycled aluminum alloy products. Surface quality is also a critical issue for the twin-roll cast plate, since the original plate surface is not removed for the purpose of process-saving. Regular dark and shiny patterns were observed on the plate surface. The formation mechanism of the patterns was investigated and it was found that the surface quality can be improved by modifying the nozzle tip shape. </p>
