Short title: Oxygenation Changes in the Irradiated Mandibular Bone 共著者あり。共著者名:Mikoya Tadashi, Tamura Mamoru, Totsuka Yasunori
To evaluate the degree of osteoradionecrosis after radiotherapy, we measured systematically the time courses of the oxygenation states of the rabbit mandibular bone after irradiation. For this purpose, the near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was employed, by which the contents of oxy-, deoxy- and total hemoglobins in the blood at the irradiated area were measured with the clonic intervals at 1, 5, 9 and 12 months after irradiation. The combinations of the hypoxic anoxia and ischemic anoxia could differentiate the changes of oxygen utilization and the changes of oxygen supply in the irradiated bone tissue. The results showed that the both oxygen consumption and blood volume in the mandibular bone decreased with the time. We concluded that tissue oxygen metabolism of the irradiated bone could be monitored non-invasively and continuously by the use of NIRS. The present approach opens the possible use of NIRS in the radiation therapy in oral and maxillofacial regions.
