For patients with unilateral vocal cord paralysis, surgical adduction of the arytenoid cartilage introduced by Isshiki has gained widespread acceptance. In this study phonatory function was tested, pre-operatively, 3-4 weeks post-operatively and over ten months post-operatively to evaluate its long-term post operative changes.<br>Phonatory function determined over ten months post-operatively was slightly worse than that observed 3-4 weeks post-operatively. The degree of this change, however, was not large enough to bring into question the effectiveness of this operation.
