- Six cases of intrathoracic castleman lymphoma.

We experienced 6 cases of intrathoracic Castleman lymphoma. The hyaline vascular type (4 patients) had no symptoms other than abnormal shadows on chest X-ray films, while the mixed type (2 patients) had symptoms and signs of slight fever, fatigue, anemia, and hyperglobulinemia with abnormal shadows on chest C-ray. These symptoms and signs disappeared after operation. Review of 130 case reports in Japan revealed that the hyaline vascular type was most frequent (100 patients). Patients with mixed and plasma cell type had a high incidence of anemia, slight fever, hepatomegaly, high blood sedimentation rate and high CRP. Although the prognosis in Castleman lymphoma is generally good, cases of transformation to plasmacytoma, Kaposi's sarcoma and malignant lymphoma have been reported and are often difficult to discriminate from plasma cell dyscrasia. Therefore cases of Castleman lymphoma should be carefully followed up after treatment.
