Recent progression and widespread use of ultrasonography have enabled more accurate evaluation of hepatic cysts, and such cases are increasingly encountered. During one year (1990). 5, 100 cases had examined by abdominal sonography in the hospital, and 168 cases (3.3%) were found to have a hepatic cyst. Most tumor were within 4 cm in diameter, and only 3 cases had diameter of over 8 cm. This paper describes two cases of large hepatic cyst were treated by ultrasonography-guided infusion of a small amount of absolute ethanol, which were getting on well.
In an investigation of 66 including these 2 cases of this disease reported in Japan. 62 cases were infused ethanol and 4 cases minocycline hydrochloride. The infusion procedure includes that 78 Fr pigtail catheter is placed into the cyst, drug is left in the cyst for 10 to 30 minutes, and the patient is rolled into various positions.
It may be optimal for hepatic cyst that a little volume of ethanol is infused for every infusion, a catheter is remained into the cyst, and the infusion is repeated 2 or 3 times, if necessary.
