Abstract: Among 303 ccnsecutive patients with head and neck cancer, who visited our clinic from September 1978 to December 1991, 34 patients (11.22%) with multiple primary malignant tumors were identified according to the criteria of Warren & Gates. Tongue, oral floor and oropharynx were highly incidental sites as a primary lesion, and the counter parts of another primary malignant tumor were indicated to be in the upper digestive tract, especially stomach and esophagus.<BR>Recent technical advancement for early diagnosis and prolongation of the survival period in cancer patients have seemed to increase the chance for development of other primary malignant tumors. It was therefore considered that we should give our minds to the possibility of multiple malignant tumors at any time, and that the endoscopic examination of upper digestive tracts will be recommended in all patients with head and neck cancer.
