The Orthoptist Law specifies the type of ophthalmic instruments to be provided for instruction and training in orthoptist (training) school. It has not been revised since the issue in 1971. We re-appraised the ophthalmic instruments for the future, for some instruments could not been prepared because of manufacturing stoppage, and some instruments did not seem to be suitable for the actual condition when our orthoptist training department was established in 1991.<br>There are the 73 types of ophthalmic insturuments which have been specified. The types which we could not prepare were as follows:<br>(1) stop manufacturing but plan to reproduce-1 type<br>(2) stop manufacturing sectionaly-1 type<br>(3) stop manufacturing and no replaceable-9 types<br>The 10 types of them are orthoptic's instruments. In conclusion, some instruments which is now not manufactured, might be out of date, because these instruments are not used in clinical scenes.<br>Our study suggests that periodical re-evaluation and renewal of the ophthalmic instruments for orthoptist education should be considered corresponding with progress of medical science.
