抄録

Forty-eight patients with acute epiglottitis were treated from 1984 to 1993. Forty-seven patients were adults aged 20 to 78 years. One patient was an 18-month-old female. Only two of the adults needed tracheotomy, and the child needed nasal intubation. Antibiotics and corticosteroid inhalation were used to treat most of the patients. Intravenous corticosteroids were not used. Intravenous corticosteroids may be necessary for patients with prolonged swelling of the epiglottis. The mean duration of hospitalization was 9.5 days. There were no deaths.
