Abstract

We report two cases of olfactory neuroblastoma experienced in the past ten years. Patients were 27 and 68 year-old men, whose chief complaints were unilateral nasal obstruction and epistaxis. Diagnosis was made by immunohistochemical examination in addition to light microscopic findings. The extention of the tumor was examined by CT scan and MRI the latter of which was very useful to assess the intracranial involvement.<BR>Both patients were treated with preoperative radiotherapy and anterior skull base surgery. The case 1 suffered from postoperative extradural abscess, which was needed another skull base reconstructive operation. He also developed cervical lymph nodes metastasis 42 months later and underwent neck disection several times. In the other case, the postoperative course has been uneventful and clinical sign suggesting local reccurence or metastasis is not found during the observation period of 39 months.
