Abstract

Eleven cases of congenital anomaly in the head and neck, including 4 cases of lateral cervical cyst, 3 cases of medial cervical cyst and 3 cases of cystic hygroma, and one case of lingual thyroid, were treated at the University of Tsukuba Hospital from March 1988 to March 1998.
1. MRI was very useful to diagnose the cystic hygroma, which could not be clearly visualized on CT.
2. Out of 11 cases, 9 cases were surgically treated without recurrence except for one case of median cervical cyst, whereas two cases, a lingual thyroid and a cystic hygroma, were followed up without surgery.
