Abstract
For improving the quality assurance of mammography training courses, it is essential to satisfy various criteria. The more frequently the courses are held, the more the quality of the course programs becomes degraded (as described in our previous report on 12 courses held up to the end of December 2001). In the present study, we investigated the course programming and management necessary for quality assurance by adding the results of quality assurance. Among 19 courses held in 2002, 15 (79%) satisfied the criteria, and resulted in better improvement than that outlined in the 5 th report. Questionnaires completed by attendants/participants and course lecturers, establishment of a one-unit hour for each course group, sufficient preparation of discussions among lecturers, and meetings for course reviews by the lecturers appeared to have helped a great deal. In this report, we focused especially on the factors influencing quality assurance, based on a total of 19 courses. The improvement in quality was recognized to exceed level 2 among attendants under 50 years of age, radiologists, and those with film-reading experience prior to the courses. For improving the film-reading ability of attendants/participants, it was found that radiology technicians had attended courses on radiographic technology. In the future, film-reading doctors must cooperate closely and liaise with technicians to arrive at further ways of improving film image quality, and statistical analysis for quality control of film-reading courses may also be justified.
