Nocardia concava sp. nov., isolated from Japanese patients

<jats:p>Two actinomycete strains, IFM 0354<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> and IFM 0576, isolated from Japanese patients, were found to have morphological, biochemical and chemotaxonomic properties consistent with their classification in the genus <jats:italic>Nocardia</jats:italic>. The strains resembled <jats:italic>Nocardia otitidiscaviarum</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>Nocardia uniformis</jats:italic> in their phenotypic properties. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the strains are closely related to <jats:italic>Nocardia seriolae</jats:italic>. DNA–DNA relatedness values and phenotypic differences from <jats:italic>N. seriolae</jats:italic> indicated that the strains belong to a novel species of <jats:italic>Nocardia</jats:italic>, for which the name <jats:italic>Nocardia concava</jats:italic> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is IFM 0354<jats:sup>T</jats:sup> (=NBRC 100430<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>=JCM 12351<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>=DSM 44804<jats:sup>T</jats:sup>).</jats:p>
