内容説明

This volume encompasses two specialized fields. The first section is concerned with parasites; the second with vertebrates as pests. Since vertebrate pests are a worldwide problem in livestock production, the contributing authors are world-renowned scientists selected from different geographical regions in an effort to provide a general insight into some of the global problems and their solutions. The pest problems discussed are similar in nature, although the species may differ from region to region. The solutions, however, are similar in principles and concepts but may differ dramatically in techniques used to solve them. These solutions can often be strongly influenced by past history, cultural differences of the people, available resources, livestock management practices, and cost of control techniques. The many examples of problems and solutions in the book offer a wealth of information on the subject and provide a glimpse of the breadth and magnitude of vertebrate pest problems in the livestock production. Parasitology in livestock production is an important and relatively complex subject. The various chapters in this section cover most of the general aspects of host-parasite relations as well as some of the most prominent and economically important parasitic diseases throughout the world.
