M. N. Roy was perhaps one of the most outstanding intellectual activists of the first half of this century. He took an active and leading part in revolutionary movements in India, Mexico, the Soviet Union, and China. At the same time, he was a penetrating and prolific writer whose published books and pamplets run to over 100 titles. The Selected Works, planned in six volumes, are to be representative of M. N. Roy's writings spread over a period of thirty-seven years. Volume 1 (1917-22) includes the translation from Spanish of his writings of the Mexican period, the works of the early communist period, including the classic India in Transition. Some of these have been tranlated into English for the first time. Scholars of early twentieth-century revolutionary movements and left-wing thought, and of nationalism and decolonization.

M. N. Roy was an outstanding intellectual activist of the first half of the twentieth century. He took an active and leading part in revolutionary movements in India, Mexico, the Soviet Union, and China. He was a prolific writer, whose works amount to over one hundred titles. Volume II of the Selected Works presents a selection of his principal writings between 1923 and 1927. It includes, amongst other works, his Political Letters, The Future of Indian Politics, and his speeches at the Fifth Congress of the Comintern. Many of the writings are available for the first time as they were proscribed by the government when originally published.

He took a leading part in revolutionary movements in India, Mexico, the Soviet Union, and China, and was founder of the Communist Party of Mexico (1919) and of India (1920).
