内容説明
`Marxism and Literary History' is a major reformulation of Marxist literary theory. Through a critique of its precursors (the works of Lukacs, Macherey, Eagleton and Jameson), it seeks to define the strengths and limitations of this tradition, and then to extend its possibilities in a radical reworking of the concept of discourse. `Frow has produced a valuable book, which certainly ought to be studied by Marxists interested in the stance to take towards post-structuralism and by theorists of other persuasions interested in arguments against simplified Marxist and non-Marxist appeals to history.' Jonathan Culler `ambitious and provocative' Times Literary Supplement.
