内容説明

This book focuses upon the structure and work of international institutions in a range of areas that are specific to the present day. Part 1 is an account of the basic functions and the emergence of international institutions, together with a discussion of the role of Secretariats. In the second and main part of the book a range of authors examine the work of institutions in particular empirical areas. It provides a guide to the problems of maintaining international peace and security, ways of coping with disaster, approaches to human rights and the development of the poorer countries of the world. The book concludes with an assessment of present systems and possible reforms. This paperback edition is published in anticipation of the editors' "Frameworks for International Co-operation".
