内容説明
What are the limits of cultural difference that have been tolerated in our nation's history? How have these diverse cultural groups, who have come into conflict with society, used the law to protect and preserve their cultural integrity? How has the law been used to further dominant cultural and economic interests? American Cultural Pluralism and the Law is a chronological examination of the interaction of law and cultural pluralism in the United States. The text is based on materials drawn from court decisions, statutes and codes, essays and legal ethnographies. This book is also relevant to the current debate in the academic community about the content of undergraduate core curriculum. Should that curriculum by exclusively Western in its canon or should students be exposed to the history and values of many different cultures? It is an American society text that offers a measure of each, examining the legal interactions of diverse cultural groups with the dominant culture.
