内容説明
The traditional `Dickensian' concept of home has usually been labelled as sentimental and not considered worthy of critical attention. Armstrong contends that the concept of home needs to be examined: Dickens did celebrate the value of home, and increased that value by his assertion of it. Ranging over all Dickens's fiction, she examines the contradictions in his treatment of home and shows that Dickens viewed home not as a place of retreat, but as an areaof action in which the self can be expressed and can begin to encounter the world.
