内容説明

Dyspnea is one of the major symptoms in many respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and it interferes greatly with the patient's quality of life. However, its casual mechanism still is not sufficiently clarified. In recent years, ventilatory dysfunction accompanying respiratory control abnormalities such as sleep apnea syndrome as well as impairments of gas exchange have been gaining attention. Patients with diseases involving dyspnea or respiratory control abnormalities may consult physicians in a number of medical disciplines, including internal medicine, psychoneurology, gerontology, pediatrics and otorhinolaryngology. This diverse background has stimulated advances in both basic and clinical medicine leading to this symposium programme addressing four main themes: respiratory rhythm generation; abnormality of respiratory control; respiratory muscle and dyspnea; and behavioral control of breathing and dyspnea. About two hundred scientists from seven countries were able to participate in this symposium.
