内容説明
This collection of specially commissioned articles looks at the major aspects of British defence policy at the time when it has assumed a much higher profile in British politics after two decades of relatively stable government policy and public apathy. The contributors examine a number of policy issues in their domestic and international contexts. Amongst these are the renewal of the national nuclear deterrent; the development of NATO's deterrent policies in Europe following the changing strategic situation of the superpowers; the question of defence commitments in the light of tightly constrained budgets and the "peace dividend"; arms control policy; defence and party politics, pressure groups and electoral debates; the role of the House of Commons Select Committee on Defence and alternative defence strategies.
