Muscle fatigue is of central importance in exercise physiology, but the mechanisms and causes of fatigue are still not fully understood. This volume provides recent information on the complex subject of skeletal muscle fatigue. Emphasis is placed on fundamental data concerning the mechanisms involved in fatigue. The contributions include various experimental models ranging from isolated muscle fibre to the whole body. Attention is also given to alternative hypotheses of the more classical theories about local fatigue. The book should benefit a variety of experts interested in physical activity and muscle fatigue, from sports scientists and physicians to athletes, sports administrators and reporters.
