内容説明

To celebrate the 65th birthday of the German medievalist Helmut Gneuss, twenty-three scholars from Great Britain, Germany, the USA, Canada and Belgium have combined in a festschrift on Anglo-Saxon culture and the Old English language, covering the honorand's wide range of interests. Four of the contributions are textual editions (two of them first editions). Several articles have as their subjects historical, liturgical and palaeographical problems; four are devoted to Anglo-Saxon poetry, mainly Beowulf. The remainder treat philological questions of the Old English lexicon.Contributors: A.I. DOYLE, PAUL E. SZARMACH, FRANZ WENSICH, SIMON KEYNES, MICHAEL LAPIDGE, MECHTHILD GRETSCH, MILTON McC.
