Description and Table of Contents

Description

This book contains the edited versions of a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Soil Dynamics & Earthquake Engineering held in Bath in June 1993. This volume includes new and advanced ideas in soil dynamics and earthquake engineering theory and practice and covers the excitation and propagation of dynamic waves in the ground, the determination of dynamic properties of soils and rock, and the behaviour of structures under dynamic loads. The work is intended to create a better understanding of dynamical ground-structure-interaction and at enhancing the combined efforts of geophysics, soil, rock and structural dynamics in the reduction of risks to people and structures in civil and mining engineering. Papers on Hagia Sophia in Istanbul in Turkey are presented in a special section of the book. This part has been arranged in conjunction with the organisers of the International Conference on Structural Studies, Repairs and Maintenance of Historical Buildings also held in Bath in June 1993. The section consists of a series of papers on various studies of this fascinating and important basilica. This book will be of particular interest to civil & mechanical engineers concerned with recent developments in computational mechanics and geomechanics.
