内容説明
Developing countries in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America have made huge profits from exporting oil in recent years and have won great control over world markets. This book looks at the background to examine why this vast oil revenue has done so little to bring about sustained economic and political development in these countries. Separate chapters consider: the impact of oil on individual developing countries, from initial exploitation through to the present day; the evolution of the international oil industry as a whole; and US and British oil policies. The work is fully up-to-date and contains statistical material. This text is part of a new series which analyzes different commodities in the context of the development of the international economy from 1860 to the present. Supported with statistical material, tables and extended references, each studies a political economy and a particular commodity. Initially covering oil, gold, coffee, diamonds and cocoa, these titles should be of interest to both general and academic readerships.
