内容説明
Much progress has been made in the field of biofilm reactors in the last five years: advanced techniques, such as microelectrodes, NMR imaging, confocal laser microscopy and genetic probes, have given a deeper understanding of the basic phenomena of biofilms, leading to an improved ability to design processes; more experience has been gained in the operation of various types of biofilm reactors in treatment plants. These developments are reflected in this double issue, the selected proceedings of a highly successful conference, which encompassed reports on the state-of-the-art in biofilm research and practical experience of the latest reactor designs. The 65 papers in this volume cover the following subjects: large-scale biological aerated filtration; tertiary nitrification; denitrification; nitrogen and phosphorus removal; upgrading with biofilms; full-scale case studies; modelling population dynamics; anaerobic biofilm structure; fluidized beds; modelling multiphase fluidized beds; special denitrification; mixed biofilm modelling; diffusion; denitrification in potable waters; special substances.
These papers provide a useful survey of the fundamentals of biofilms and their application to wastewater treatment.
