Presents an intimate view of master carpenters at work in the reconstruction of an 8th-century temple in Nara. The book captures the technical side of traditional Japanese techniques as well as the spirit of the craft. 0ver a thousand years ago in Nara, Japan, anonymous carpenters erected a number of temples and pagodas for a newly founded Buddhist monastery known as Yakushiji.
