The economic benefits of multiphase technology for developing marginal and deepwater fields and discoveries have long been recognized by the oil industry. Better design methods are being developed for multiphase transportation and for pumping, metering, and processing equipment. Depressed oil prices and the need to develop smaller and deeper fields is spurring the application of multiphase technology. Associated risks are becoming understood through improved know-how.
