In this book, the elements of informed consent are brought into a unified theory that results in a new paradigm for informed consent. Based upon an autonomy-enhancing model, this paradigm makes it a necessary condition that the patient gives an autonomous and well-informed decision in favor of a medical treatment. The author proceeds to redefine the physician-patient relationship so that the relationship is an equal partnership between the two individuals, with the common goal of improving overall health and well-being.
