This is a review of functional anatomy, physical and physiological changes during pregnancy and labour and puerperium. General and specific exercises for both ante- and post-natal periods and exercises are explained and illustrated to enable the midwife to teach her client correct coping strategies for pregnancy, labour and puerperium. Particular attention is paid to back care before and after pregnancy. Chapters on other methods of keeping fit during pregnancy include aquanatal classes, yoga and movement to music as well as a survey of the clientele needing preparation for parenthood.
