Description
Molly and Walter Bareiss assembled one of the great collections of modern artists' books-more than 1,400 volumes in all, including an unparalleled group of 76 with original prints by Picasso-and donated it in 1984 to the Toledo Museum of Art. Originally issued between 1853 and the end of the twentieth century, these books range from classic livres d'artiste to mass-produced artists' books of the 1960s to unique book-objects, and the artists range from the greatest masters of modern painting and sculpture to many less well known. This invaluable publication provides fascinating essays on many aspects of artists' books, illustrates more than 100 in full color, and includes a comprehensive checklist of every book in the collection.
