This book accompanied an exhibition in Dresden which presented works on paper by 13 leading young Japanese artists with a special focus on drawing and prints. The works of these highly individual artists are characterized by contrasting concepts such as tradition and modernity, West and East, stillness and movement, global phenomena and distinctively Japanese features, reflecting contemporary Japanese thought and society. The subtitle of the exhibition ? ?Silence ? Action? describes the ambivalence between narrative activity and meditative reflection, which perfectly delineates the fascination of Japanese culture.
