This text offers new insight into the intersection of mass media's crime coverage and its influence on readers. This work focuses on possible ideal type depiction's of crime, criminals, and victims in print media. It presents a two year content analysis of "US News & World Report", "The Los Angeles Times", and "The Washington Post". It concludes that the media reinforced race, class, and gender based fears of African Americans, the poor, males, and single individuals.
