内容説明

Simon Fujiwara (b. 1982) moved to Carbis Bay near St Ives at the age of four and lived in Cornwall until he was sixteen. It was as a teenager at the Tate Gallery in St Ives that he first encountered a modern art work, a disturbing experience that inspired his play "The Mirror Stage". After a year spent in Japan he completed his secondary education in London and then took a BA in Architecture at Cambridge University before moving to Frankfurt where he studied fine art. He has exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, and received the Cartier Award 2010. Through novels, theatre plays, lectures and installations, Fujiwara scripts and performs his own biography as fiction - a drama in which he plays the roles of multiple characters: artist, novelist, anthropologist, eroticist, architect and playwright. Fujiwara fuses the personal with grand socio-political and historical themes. Accompanying a major exhibition at Tate St Ives, this is closer to an artist's book in appearance than a conventional exhibition catalogue, yet it will be the most thorough exploration of the work of this important emerging artist yet published. Ten of Fujiwara's past works, including "Welcome to Hotel Munber", "The Mirror Stage" (remade as an installation), "The Personal Effects of Theo Grunberg" and "Rehearsal for a Reunion", are documented through combinations of research notes, interviews, scripts and full-page images. Further texts relating to the major themes and concerns in his work will be contained in a supplement and arranged as an A-Z.
