  • 祭礼の笑い  [in Japanese]

    日本には落語、漫才などさまざまな笑いの文化があるが、一番身近なものは伝統的な祭礼で見る事ができる笑いである。伝統的な祭礼は厳格に執り行われていると思いがちだが、実は笑いにあふれている。笑う祭礼、笑うことを意図する祭礼、笑いを意図しないにもかかわらず、笑ってしまう祭礼など、日本の民俗社会の祭礼は、本来どこかに笑う場面が必ずあったと言われている。本稿では、本学会『笑いの民俗行事』プロジェクトが提案した祭礼の笑いのカテゴリーを検証し、祭礼における笑いの役割を考察する。祭礼では、ただおかしいから笑うというのではなく、その笑いには意味があり、それは日本人の笑い観にも影響を与えてきたと考えることができる。祭礼、行事についての民俗学的研究、文学的研究、あるいは、アジア諸国の祭礼、行事との比較文学、比較文化的、文化人類学的考察に関する先行論文は多数あるが、祭礼の笑いについて論じた先行研究はほとんどない。

  • Theory & Practice in the "Shinto-Ablutions Performing Group of Korea" (朝鮮禊会): On the Religious Nature of State Shinto in Colonial Korea(Special Issue Dedicated to Professor KO Sung-Ha,Professor TERAKI Nobuaki)  [in Japanese]

    In this paper I seek to clarify the theory and practice of the "Shinto-Ablutions Performing Group of Korea" (朝鮮禊会), pointing out that, while recognizing the religious element in Shinto, the group steadfastly maintained that the practice of Shinto attained a higher plane over and above simple religion. The ascetics of the group held that, by carrying out ablutions (禊行), Shinto believers were able to attain unity with the ancestral gods. Needless to say, the worship of ancestral gods has a direct connection with the worship of Amaterasu Omikami (天照大神), the ancestral goddess of Japan's Imperial House. The ascetics of the group are thus directly linked to the ideology of the Japanese emperor system.

  • Regional urban planning in bird's-eye view pictures by Yoshida, Hatsusaburo : Pictures of Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture  [in Japanese]

    Yoshida Hatsusaburo was a designer of bird's-eye view pictures and he produced whole country. There are picture which he drew in Miyazaki prefecture. Three pictures which Nobeoka city, Miyazaki was drawn on as the subject in that exist, and, after "Nobeoka Meisho Zue (Pictorial Nobeoka)" of 1922, "Nobeoka" of the "Tetsudo Ryoko^ Annai (A guide book for rail travel )" inside in 1923 and World War II, "Nobeoka-shi cho^kanzu (A bird's-eye view picture of Nobeoka City)" in 1952 which this. From these documents, as well as the figure of cities throughout Japan by the point of view of Mr. Hatsusaburo, it suggests the idea of regional cities in this period for "town planning"

  • Archaeological Site Festival and Local Identity : A Case Study of "SHIBAYAMA HANIWA FESTIVAL"  [in Japanese]

    わが国において遺跡は埋蔵文化財として捉えられ、長い間保護すべき対象として扱われてきた。しかし、近年になって遺跡を観光資源や「町おこし」などに積極的に活用しようという動きが出てきている。こうした傾向に対して、本稿では遺跡の活用のあり方の一つであり、現在全国各地で実施されている「遺跡まつり」を取り上げた。まず、全国各地で実施されている「遺跡まつり」の現状について概観し、教育普及型と町おこし型という「遺跡まつり」の類型化を試みた。その後、具体的な事例として町おこし型の「遺跡まつり」である「芝山はにわ祭」(千葉県芝山町)の歴史や催しものについて詳細に検討した。そして、この祭りは行政のバックアップによる「町おこし」としての役割だけでなく、地元の小中学生を古代人として参加させることによって「地域アイデンティティの創出」に寄与していることを指摘した。In Japan, archaeological sites were regarded as a cultural property and have been treatedas an object of conservation for a long time. However, archaeological sites are utilizedfor tourist attractions and "town revitalization" in recent years. In this paper, I picked up "archaeological site festival" and surveyed about the actual condition of the"archaeological site festival" in Japan. And examination was added in detail about"SHIBAYAMA HANIWA(ancient clay figure) FESTIVAL" (Shibayama-machi, Chiba).As a result, I pointed out that this festival had contributed not only the role of the "townrevitalization" but the creation of "local identity" for elementary and junior high schoolstudents by making it participate as the ancients.

  • "Kamigakari" and "Wazawoki" : Ame-no-Uzume's Dancing in the Myths of Amano-iwato and Tenson-korin  [in Japanese]

    Ame-no-Uzume is a goddess of revelry who is known for her sensual but comical dancing that lured the sun goddess Amaterasu out of the cave of Amano-iwato. Her performance in the myth of Amano-iwato is described as a sort of divine possession called "kamigakari," which is caused by her dialogue with Amaterasu. In the myth of Tenson-korin, however, she makes not Amaterasu but a god named Sarutahiko show up with her dancing. In the myth of Amano-iwato her performance is also called "wazawoki," artistic improvisation that emerges from the chaotic ecstasy of "kamigakari."

  • Suzaku-In at Play : The Representation of the Ex-Emperor in the Volume of "Miotsukushi"  [in Japanese]

    In this article I will focus on the scene in the "Miotsukushi" volume of Genji-monogatari where the ex-Emperor Suzaku-In enjoys playing wind instruments. According to historical documents, Suzaku-In actually made a plan to be engaged in playing music after his abdication because he could scarcely spare the time for it when he was an emperor. Indeed, also in Genji-monogatari, unlike other emperors, he is seldom seen doing something for pleasure. So, like the ex-Emperor Uta who was his ideal, Suzaku-In decided to become an "ex-emperor at play."

    "Skills" (work, art) refers to various techniques that human beings have made and handed down with various modifications. There is the techniques of body methods and arts, including methods of breathing or meditation. A skill is a mediator between a mind and a thing, and is a style of the mind using the body. While it is related to religious ideas and religious thought, religious "physical intellect" also involves various skills. I will introduce the originality of the Japanese religious physical intellect and "ecologocal wisdom" by focusing on "waterfall praxis" as one example of a religious skill.

  • The Image of "Shou-no-iwaya" : Saigyo's Method of Making Religious Poems(<Special Issue>Religious Discourses in Medieval Times)  [in Japanese]

    Through his poetical work Saigyo earnestly sought after reconciliation between art and religion. The method he devised to achieve this goal was to introduce the religious energy of popular discourses - legends, myths, ghost tales, and fables - into waka poetry. The adaptation of the "Shou-no-iwaya" episode in the legend of Nichizo for his poem most successfully exemplifies a unity between art and religion he wanted to realize.

  • Politics in Umoregi-no-hana: Its Literary Representation of the Imperial Tour  [in Japanese]

    Umoregi-no-hana is a collection of poems that Masakaze Takasaki compiled in celebration of the Emperor Meiji's visit to the 6u district. The poems were allegedly dedicated to the emperor by ordinary people in the local areas, but the editor intentionally selected ones made by those who were sympathetic with the new imperial regime. Indeed, in most of the poems, the imperial tour is uncritically celebrated, but the district itself is represented as a primitive place to be ruled and enlightened by the modern government. Thus Umoregi-no-hana reflects not only Takasaki's ideological aesthetics but also the political climate of the Meiji Period.
