Abstract
Laboratory experiment were conducted to investigate fresh concrete flowing through vertical steel bars in u-shaped and box-shaped filling test apparatus by visualization technique. It was found that there is the shear plane in fresh concrete flowing the box-shaped filling test apparatus, and that the shear plane in not generated in u-shaped filling test apparatus. This shear plane affected the average maximum shear strain rates of fresh concrete in the filling test. The shear strain rates in box-shaped filling test were about 4 times as large as the strain rates in u-shaped filling test.
