Abstract
For stable operation of a spouted bed with a draft tube, the minimum spouting gas velocity for binary mixtures of glass beads is calculated based on three definitions. The effects of the mass fraction of finer particles and the distance of entrainment zone are investigated, and the minimum spouting velocity is compared with that of coarser particles only.<BR>As a result, it is shown that a higher gas velocity than the minimum stable spouting gas velocity necessitates for the stable spouting, and the addition of only a small amount of finer particles causes the bed to spout at a much lower gas velocity.
