高マンガン鋳鋼の炭酸ガスレーザビーム溶接 CO_2 Laser Beam Welding of High Manganese Cast Steel

  CO<sub>2</sub> laser beam was applied to the welding of high manganese cast steel. The average bead width is investigated by changing the laser power, welding speed and focusing position of the laser beam. The average bead width increased with laser power and decreased with welding speed. The average bead width of 0.8mm was obtained under the conditions ; the laser power of 1.5 × 10<sup>3</sup>W, welding speed of 2.5 × 10<sup>-2</sup>m/s and focusing position on the front surface of the workpiece. The laser welding process of this casting does not generate a heat affected zone around the boundary between the base metal and fusion zone. The hardness of the fusion zone was nearly the same (240~250 HV 0.1) as in the base metal, although the matrix transformed into a fine dendritic structure (secondary dendrite arm spacing; 3.0<i>μ</i>m) by the rapid solidification conditions (cooling rate ; 1.7 × 10<sup>5</sup>K/s). These results show that CO<sub>2</sub> laser beam welding serves as a new welding process for high manganese cast steel in foundry industries.
