抄録

  Spheroidal graphite cast irons containing copper up to 2mass% were austenized at 1173K followed by austempering at 643K for 0.5 to 5hours. The microstructure of austempered ductile iron (ADI) was investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Austenite decomposes to bainitic ferrite and carbide which form along a specific crystallographic plane and/or in the direction of austenite. Bainitic ferrite has a K-S relation with austenite and contains many dislocations. The carbides are of Fe7C3 in the lath structure and of Fe23C6 in austenite pool in Cu-free ADI. On the other hand, Fe3C carbide is observed in the austenite pool in 2%Cu-containing ADI.
