Abstract
ON SOCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL GROUNDS, WE OFTEN HAVE TO MAKE A PLAN TO SHIP RESOURCES ON A PLANE TO A FIXED PORT OR DEPOT BY A TRAFFIC ROUTE. THIS PAPER DISCUSSES A MANY-TO-ONE RESOURCE SHIPPING ROUTE. OF COURSE, THE ALLOCATION OF THE RESOURCES TO THE ROUTE DEPENDS ON THE FORM AND THE LOCATION OF THE ROUTE. SO, WE FORMULATE A LOCATION-ALLOCATION MODEL OF THE SHIPPING ROUTE, WHICH HAS A CONSTRAINT OF THE ROUTE LENGTH. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE MODEL IS TO MINIMIZE THE TOTAL SHIPPING COST FROM RESOURCE SITES TO THE PORT. THIS STUDY HAS CLARIFIED HOW THE OPTIMAL ROUTE DEPENDS ON THE UNIT SHIPPING COSTS BY USE OF THE NONLINEAR PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUE.
