Abstract
The response of a one dimensional ultrasonic composite resonator due to the excitation by carrier frequency repeating pulses is evaluated on the basis of the “propagating wave” model. The carrier frequency pulse train is considered as the superposition of an infinite number of continuous waves having frequencies and amplitudes given by its Fourier components. Among them, only those having frequencies within the effective bandwidth of the transducer and associated electrical circuit contribute to the response. The dependence of the response on the bandwidth, pulse duration time, pulse repetition rate and the frequency of the carrier wave has been studied. The nature of the evaluated responses are found to agree well with those observed in standard ultrasonic experiments e.g., the pulse-echo and pulse-superposition methods.
