Survival, growth and feeding habits were examined in larvae of laboratory-reared red spotted grouper Epinephelus akaara from hatching to 12 days. Experimental larvae were divided into two groups: one was starved while the other was fed the small type of rotifer, Brachionus rotundiformis, immediately after mouth opening. The newly hatched larvae survived for 7 days without food at a temperature of 23.4-25.1°C. Starved larvae grew only in the initial 3 days while some of the yolk and/or oil globule were still present. The larvae fed rotifers grew well from a TL of 1.60±0.071 mm on day 0 to TL of 3.57±0.355 mm on day 12. The mouth started opening at day 2. Feeding incidence increased from day 3 and reached 100% on day 5. The number of rotifers ingested increased gradually with larval growth. The larvae seemed to be poor feeders at the onset of feeding and started feeding on the rotifers with smaller lorica length about 0.150 mm.
