抄録

A newly developed quinolone synthetic antimicrobial drug, balofloxacin (BLFX), was administered to 21 patients with bacterial infectious diseases in the field of urology, and its efficacy and safety were investigated.<BR>Among these patients, 5 with simple cystitis and 9 with complicated urinary tract infectious disease showed results that were consistent with the criteria proposed by the Japanese UTI Committee. Overall clinical efficacy for simple cystitis was rated excellent in 2 and effective in 3. Overall clinical efficacy for complicated urinary tract infection was excellent in 2 and effective in 4. Headache was observed as a subjective side effect probably attributable to the drug in one patient. Elevation of the monocyte count was observed as an abnormal change in clinical laboratory test values in one patient.
