Abstract

When porous concrete is applied to the river revetment, the erosion protective function can be ensured to the embankment. The application of the porous concrete to the embankment is also regarded as one of the multinatural river methods. Plants are directly vegetated onto porous concrete, and both microorganism and small animals can live in those voids, when it is applied to the low-water level revetment. Henceforth, the harmonic ecosystem is formed in it, and indirect purification of water quality due to the system can be expected. The Advanced Construction Technology Center has organized the review board on the river revetment method with porous concrete since 1997. The board has made an investigation on 62 practical cases of river revetment to which porous concrete is applied by the Ministry of Construction. The final report of the investigation is published as a guidebook on river revetment methods with porous concrete in April, 2001. Outline of the guidebook is briefly described in this paper.
