Abstract

Excitation-emission matrix spectroscopy (EEMS) was applied for the hydrophobic and hydrophilic components fractionated by XAD-8 resins as well as the non-fractionated filtrated water samples which were obtained from rivers, coastal regions, and wastewater facilities. We found at most seven peaks, of which the wavelengths changed insignificantly irrespective of the sample origin. The possibility of characterizing chemically dissolved organic matter in natural waters was confirmed by using PFI/DOC (relative fluorescence intensity divided by DOC) at the positions of the seven peaks and their PRP (patterns of RFI/DOC).
