Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the combustion properties of biogas fuel and to develop a new combustion technique with high efficiency and low emission for internal combustion engine operated by biogas fuel. It has been shown by the results that methane is intrinsically suitable for lean burn technique compared with other hydrocarbons, such as propane. In addition, it has been also found that dilution with CO2 has an effect on increase in turbulent burning velocity of methane mixture compared with the corresponding dilution with N2. Furthermore, hydrogen addition to a methane mixture has been shown to improve the turbulent combustion performance in fuel lean mixture region.
