抄録

The focus of this article is on developing an understanding of the complexities of Learning Disorders and its various subtypes using the viewpoint and paradigm of cognitive psychology. With 9 Learning Disorder children as subjects, letter search task was employed. In the experiment, words or nonwords written in hiragana were presented on a CRT display. Subjects were asked to press the corresponding key whether there was target character (vowel characters : "あ", "い", "う", "え", or "お") in the displayed letter strings. The global trend of our data shows word superiority effect on letter search task, it means that letters in words were detect faster than letters in nonwords. However the data from a subject (a 9years old boy with severe Reading and Writing Problems) did not show the word superiority effect. The case was investigated in details and the possibility that Learning Disorder has a subtype with difficulty in using whole word visual representations was discussed.
