Abstract
Neurilemmoma (schwannoma) is frequently located in the head and neck, but is relatively rare at the base of tongue.<br>We treated a 6-year-old boy with schwannoma at the base of tongue. Extirpation of the tumor was performed by the oral approach. A histopathological study revealed diagnosis neurilemmoma including both Antoni type A and B regions. He had no lingual paralysis or taste loss after the surgery. The origin of the nerve could not be identified. A review of the literature disclosed 30 cases of this tumor. We conclude that it is important to be aware of this tumor when we are diagnosing oral tumors in children. The clinical features of this tumor were discussed.
