Abstract

This study reports the recovery process of a case with non-classical type of pure alexia. Following an excision of an arteriovenous malformation at the inferior medial part of the left temporo-occipital region, the patient, a 36-year-old right-handed man, developed a right homonymous hemianopsia, anomic aphasia, pure alexia, kanji agraphia, short-term memory disturbance, and hypo-emotionality. His reading and writing abilities improved over a 7-year period, but other impairments remained unchanged.
